These are the Waterview Apartments that are set up on campus
land by a private company, First Worthing. The University of Texas
at Dallas, the school upon whose land the complex resides, permits the company
to have direct control over the apartments, for a percentage of the total
rent taken in by the company. This, of course, causes a conflict of
interst, and when the students have a disagreement with the apartment owners,
which occurs fairly frequently, the University either looks the other way
or encourages the student to bow down to the wishes of the corporation.
After all, if the student pays more money to the company, the University gets
more money. The whole system is extremely corrupt, and has gotten so
bad in recent years that a website called "Waterview Sux!" has its own domain
name and acts as a resource of information for students that have been unfairly
treated by the apartment owners. It was with great relief that I left
this place which can only be described as slums. Even dorms are better
kept than this place.
